Though they be but on loan to us, it is our inherent right to claim, love, respect, nurture and protect our children.
It is true our children are their own person. Their soul arrives formed complete with resources and challenges which may or may not be pre-determined before they enter this life, or that is…so many people believe. The jury is still out on that one for me.
I do not ascribe to the “Earth is a school” model. I like Earth is a garden better and a successful and healthy garden is dependent on the sum of its ecosystem as harmonic parts, not rugged individualism or heroism.
As parents, we do occasionally get to the play the part of the hero on behalf of our children and they certainly may look up to us as such at least until the get to a certain age when it is appropriate for them to see us as humans and equals, not heroes. However, we must retain a heroic quality within ourselves, a reminder of the bond forged in blood and beauty between us and our children. The bond must be consecrated over and over to something sacred—whatever that means to us.
To me it means the dedication and re-dedication to the Mother.
